“I cannot wait to get everyone together on July 23 to begin our preparations in going for a sixth-straight gold medal in Rio, and Los Angeles is the perfect place to get things rolling,” said USA and University of Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma, who has directed the USA National Team to an overall 23-0 record and gold medals at the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Championships. “The game between the USA National Team and the USA Select Team, which will be made up of some of the best young WNBA players who are currently in our national team pool or who may someday be on the national team, will be a good start. From everyone at Nike and at USC, and the fact that Los Angeles is bidding for the 2024 Olympics, I know we’ll have tremendous support during our three days in LA. The fans who come out to see these two teams play will not be disappointed, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
