Minnesota takes first place, Whalen is our Swisher of the NIght

Aug 29, 2016

Some great performances on a Sunday of WNBA basketball!

Players like Taurasi, Parker, Sims, Loyd and Chiney Ogwumike all scored over 20 points, but our Swisher of the night has to be Minnesota point guard Lindsay Whalen.

On the heels of a tough loss on the road in Connecticut Friday night where she struggled, committing six turnovers, Whalen was not about to let the crowd of 11,834 at the Target Center go home disappointed.

Sensing the team needed her offense last night, Whalen took a season high 15 shot attempts (she had only taken more than ten shots in a game six other times this season). The drives down the lane, her calling card for years, yielded six foul shot attempts, a total she'd only reached two other times this year.

Whalen's 24 points were a season-high, and she scored seven of them in the crucial third quarter, when the Lynx outscored Seattle 32-18 to blow the game open.

With Whalen in scoring mode, the rest of the multi-faceted Lynx stepped up their dishing game, with five different players having at least three assists. It was an impressive overall performance by a team looking to repeat as champions.

Congratulations to Lindsay Whalen, our Swisher of the Night for the games played on August 28th!
