Week Two of the WNBA schedule is completed, and it is time to name the second Disher of the Week and second Swisher of the Week honors.
As a reminder, the nightly award factors in not only quantity but also quality. Somebody may score 30+ points, but if someone else hits a buzzer beater, that may be the player honored. Same thing for assists; it is the importance, timing, and quality of the pass(es) that determines the Disher of the night, not just who has the most assists.
The weekly honoree is based on that one night they were honored, not their weekly totals or performance in aggregate. So without further ado:
Your nominees for Disher of the Week are:
Your nominees for Swisher of the Week are:
And your weekly honorees are:
Disher of the Week
Lindsay Whalen. Minnesota continues to roll, and is an undefeated 5-0 on the season. While Cheryl Reeve has put the ball in the hands of others, including Maya Moore, our first Disher of the Night winner, Whalen proved in the Lynx’ second win over Phoenix she is among the very best at what she does, leading the team in assist in a game Moore scored 34.
Swisher of the Week
Diana Taurasi. Staring at an 0-5 start to their season and a virtual certainty to be a road team should they make it to the later rounds of the WNBA playoffs, Phoenix turned to Taurasi. She keyed a 23-7 run, scoring 20 second half points, and 10 in that stretch as the Mercury came back to win their first game. That's worthy of Swisher of the Week honors.
Congratulations to our Disher & Swisher honorees, we hope you are enjoying our feature and keep checking out our site every day after games to see who is the next Disher and Swisher of the night!
